1. Everhart Park

West Chester’s second oldest park, Everhart Park, dates back to the 1800s. In the mid-19th century, it was used for political rallies. In 1905, Dr. Isaiah Everhart donated the land for the park to West Chester. 

Today, Everhart Park features a grill, footbridge, basketball court, activity building, and water fountain. In addition, the park offers a playground that includes two climbers, two swing sets, a see-saw snake, a double-chute slide, and a play structure that looks like a fire engine. It also hosts art camps and a summer camp, as well as the May Day Festival of the Arts on the first Sunday of every May and the Turks Head Music Festival on the third Sunday of every July.

2. Hoopes Park

Location: 700 Hoopes Park Ln.

West Chester’s largest park, Hoopes Park covers 16.2 acres of land. It was originally created as an arboretum for botanical research. The park now offers a beautiful natural space where adults and kids can play or relax outdoors. 

Play baseball or tennis at the park, or visit the open area to enjoy badminton, volleyball, and other games. With picnic tables, a grill, and a water fountain at your disposal, you’ll be able to enjoy a picnic with family and friends at the park. For kids, there’s a climbing wall, a four-wheeler climber, a double-chute slide, and two swing sets at the playground. The park also hosts activities, including an adult baseball league and a summer camp. 

3. John O. Green Memorial Park

Location: S. Matlack Street and E. Miner Street

John O. Green Memorial Park offers newer and more modern features in comparison to other parks in and around West Chester. The park has two phases, each with its own distinct features. Phase I includes a pavilion, spray park, and picnic tables. In addition to these, it offers swing sets, climbers, frog sprinklers, a castle play structure, and many other pieces of playground equipment. Opened in September 2007, Phase II helps take the park’s facilities to the next level. At this time, the park added a basketball court and a playground featuring stepping stones, boulder and peak climbers, a swing set, a play structure, and stepping stones.

4. Marshall Square Park

Location: 200 E. Marshall St.

Founded in 1878, Marshall Square Park is officially the oldest park in West Chester. Over 100 years ago, it functioned as a water basin, but it has since become much more than that.

Stop by Marshall Square Park to play basketball, sit down at a picnic table for a meal with family and friends, or relax in the gazebo. With its swings, slide, and play structure, the park is a terrific place to bring kids to play. Small festivals are held at the park at different times during the year, including a free concert series dubbed “Music at Marshall Square Park.”

5. West Goshen Community Park

Location: 1023 Fern Hill Rd.

Bordering N. Five Points Road and Lawrence Road, West Goshen Community Park offers 32 acres of space to play or relax. If you prefer to play, the park features soccer, baseball, and softball fields, basketball courts, a tennis court, and volleyball courts. Walking trails and a playground make it easy for adults and kids to get exercise. The park’s wooded area is the perfect spot to relax outdoors. The park also hosts a free summer concert series in their amphitheater.

6. East Goshen Township Park

The East Goshen Township Park offers 55 acres of space for outdoor activities. If you want to stay active, play a game of soccer, baseball, or softball at one of the park’s fields. There’s a mixed-use field, sand volleyball court, three tennis courts, and two basketball courts, too. The park offers the Hicks Pavilion and Veterans Pavilion, each of which provides a small brick barbecue that you can use for grilling. Also, it provides a gazebo, fitness circuit area, a children’s activity area, and a walking and jogging trail. The park offers tennis camps and other events throughout the year.

No bicycling, rollerblading, or skateboarding is allowed at East Goshen Township Park’s walking and jogging trail. If you bring your dog, you must keep them on a leash at all times.
