Dripping With West Chester Nostalgia

Keeping up with the summer theme, here are nostalgic West Chester bodies of water from yesteryear that no longer exist or have been a neighborhood staple for years.

1.  West End Swim Club

For years, the West End Swim Club did an amazing job of bringing a sense of community. It gave East Bradford Township that hometown feel during the latter part of the century, heading into the new millennium. With a pool, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, and a two-acre lot, this outdoor recreation space drew many families on the west side of West Chester. Many summer memories were made over the years. More competition over the years and East Bradford zoning ordinances caused too much of a financial burden, and within the past decade, the owner decided to close the doors.

2.  Milltown Reservoir

The large body of water located between the parameters of E Strasburg Rd, Reservoir Rd, Route 3, and Lochwood Ln no longer exists. For many years, this area was a dam and had many recreational uses. It gave beautiful waterfront views to residents on Reservoir Rd. and Lochwood Ln. And at times, you could see a cluster of Bald Eagles circling. The dam has been drained over the past five years and is now dried up. East Goshen is in discussions to turn this into a park with walking trails, which will cater to locals, including residents in Waterview Farms. Only time will tell…

3.  North Hill Lake

North Hill Lake is the focal point of the 160 single-family homes known as North Hill, situated just north of town. The lake is a delight during the spring and summer seasons. With a small beach, lifeguards, and a roped-off swimming area, this lake is a charming feature in an already great neighborhood. This lake is just about three acres in size and is used for recreation as well as neighborhood functions.
